Strategic Purpose Statement

This qualification is designed to deliver an insight into the world of horticulture, specifically plant function, appearance, reproduction and cultivation at an industry level.

This course offers students the opportunity to up skill in their current work place, gain entry into the horticulture workforce or provide the knowledge to create your own opportunity from home.

Graduate Profile

Graduates of this qualification will have knowledge and skills related to;

  • Trees, shrubs and climbers
  • Planting & care of bedding plants, bulbs and perennials
  • Soil-less growing media
  • Soils and fertilisers
  • Seeds and propagation
  • Selecting plants and planting

Education Pathways

This qualification is not a prerequisite for higher level national certificates in horticulture, however, the higher level certificates do build on the skills and knowledge recognised by this qualification. People intending to progress to the following higher level certificates should bear this in mind when choosing electives.

Employment Pathway

Learners will benefit by gaining recognition of their skills and entry into a training pathway leading to a range of careers in the primary sector. Graduates will be capable of working under supervision.

Entry Criteria

The student must have a physical capability to cope with the practical demands of the qualification.
