(LBTA)

For secondary school students

The National Trade Academy, in partnership with contributing schools, industry organisations and tertiary education providers, delivers land based trades and technology programmes for young people Years 11-13.

The Land Based Trade Academy provides the opportunity for students to learn the knowledge and practical skills of a land-based vocational career while remaining in school.

Students can continue with their core NCEA subjects while studying towards an entry level qualification providing access to higher levels of study at the National Trade Academy, other tertiary providers or through the relevant Industry Training Organisation while in employment.

  • Courses are free to year 11 - 13 secondary school students
  • Students receive assistance with travel costs
Terms Dates
Term 1 9 Feb - 14 April 10 weeks
Term 2 4 May - 7 July 10 weeks
Term 3 27 July - 8 Sept 10 weeks
Term 4 19 Oct - 3 Nov 4 weeks

Level 2 Agriculture, Animal Care, Equine, Horticulture New Zealand Certificates/unit standards towards
Level 2/3 Agriculture, Animal Care, Equine, Horticulture


Programme includes:

  • Dual enrollment at school and the Land Based Trade Academy (STP)
  • Study toward achieving NCEA and vocational pathways qualification
    (must be working towards achieving literacy and numeracy requirements for NCEA L1)
  • Agriculture Skills Day
  • 1:10 tutor/student ratio
  • Work experience on local farms, Arion Farm Park, Arion Riding School

 

How do students apply?

Students' applications must be supported by the school endorsement form. Once an application is received an appointment time will be set up for the student and their family/whanau to meet with the Course Administrator and Programme Tutor to discuss the programme. At the end of this a recommendation will be made to accept or decline the student onto the programme.
